LINCOLNTON––Christian Ministry’s soup kitchen needs volunteer help next month and beyond.
That’s the word Thursday from its executive director, Mitzi Williams. She informed that the soup kitchen needs a group to volunteer to cook and serve on two Saturdays: June 17 and July 1, as well as Tuesday, July 4. Many other dates are also available. If you are interested, and/or if you can help during the crucial periods of holidays and weekends, call Williams at (704) 732-0383, or e-mail soup kitchen co-ordinator Gina Maier at [email protected].
“The soup kitchen is seeing an increase of clients coming to lunch,” Williams explained. “This is why we are asking for more volunteers to come during the week to help prepare and serve meals for those in need. The soup kitchen needs volunteers to help cook and prepare meals every day of the week. You can choose one week a month or one to two days during the week or month.”
Relatedly, the soup kitchen is need of gallon-sized tea bags, sugar, cooking spray, self-rising flour, brown sugar, corn meal, cream of mushroom and chicken soups, elbow macaroni, spaghetti and lasagna noodles, mashed potatoes, sloppy joe mix, barbecue sauce, evaporated milk and canned vegetables. And the food pantry needs plastic bags.
Elsewhere, emergency services needs men’s jeans in waist sizes 30 and 32, men’s belts and men’s shoes in sizes 10.5 and 11, as Williams informed.
As well, she added, “Our household items are running low. We could use pots and pans, dishware and other assorted items to set up house.”
