The North Lincoln track teams didn't win the NCHSAA 3A title at the annual state meet this year, but they still did well in the meet at NCA&T University in Greensboro.
Liam Sutton claimed the Knights' only first place finish--winning the 300 meter hurdles; Sutton placed 2nd in the 110 meter hurdles.
Jaylen Roseboro of East Lincon finished 2nd in the boys 400 meter dash.
Stephen Fernetti of North Lincoln took 4th place in the boys 1600 meter run and 7th place in the 3200 meter.
Logan Jones was 2nd in the boys pole vault. Olivia Ferraro was 2nd in the girls 1600 meter run, and 5th in the girls 800 meter; Macy Parks was 3rd in the girls 3200 meter; Bella Wood finished 4th.
The North Lincoln boys finished 4th in the team standings while the girls finished 8th.
In the 2A state meet held on Saturday (May 20th) Lincolnton finished 25th among the girls teams and 48th among the boys. Lincoln Charter's boys team finished 19th. Bandys finished 26th among the girls teams, and 16th among the boys.
Katherine Hopkins of LHS took first place in the girls 3200 meter run. Lincoln Charter's Matthew Radin finished third in the boys 800 meter; Tucker Caulder was 3rd in the boys 1600 meter. Khalil Yarborough of Lincolnton placed 7th in the boys 110 meter hurdles. Kage Heafner of Bandys was second in the pole vault; Trey Story was third.
In the girls discus, Kaylee Cutshaw of Bandys was 3rd. West Lincoln's best performance was Gracie Elmore in the girls shot put; she placed 9th. Zoey Owenby was 11th in the high jump. Mason Avery was 11th in the boys 400 meter dash. Parker Cochrane of West was 12th in the boys discus. Bella Lohri of Lincoln Charter was 11th in the girls 800 meter run.
Meanwhile, the Western Foothills Conference named its All=Conference selections and other awards for 2023. North Lincoln was easily the conference champion and Coach Jerry Castro was named Coach of the Year. Liam Sutton was honored as the track Athlete of the Year.
