LINCOLNTON, N.C. - What were you doing fifty years ago? Not many preschool children and their parents in Lincoln County have vivid memories five decades old.
Fifty years ago, Boger City United Methodist Church started a mission in our community. Their mission was to provide a God focused education for young minds teaching them the basics building the foundation for a lifetime of learning. As Christians, we know that our learning journey with God is one that perpetuates for our entire lives. Boger City United Methodist Preschool has served generations of families with loving outreach while pursuing high standards of instructions.
To celebrate “50 Years of Learning & Loving God”, we would like to invite Boger City United Methodist Preschool current and former staff, students, their parents, committee members, church members and anyone involved in any way with our Boger City United Methodist Preschool family to join us on Sunday, March 26, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. for worship in the sanctuary, located at 2320 East Main Street in Lincolnton. A reception will follow worship in the Fellowship Hall. If you are planning to attend worship service or reception, please call 704-240-9331.
Are you one of these children or a family member of a child who experienced an early education at BCUMC Preschool? If so, we would love to hear your story or memories. Please email them to [email protected] and let us know how your attendance at our preschool has impacted you or a child’s life!
History of Boger City United Methodist Church Preschool
Starting in September 1972, with Mrs. Jane Finger supervising and under the Pastoral direction of Joe Ervin, Boger City United Methodist Church began serving the community which has continued for over five decades. It has provided the initial school experience for so many in our community. The idea of Boger City United Methodist Preschool began with the retirement of a former childcare center, House of Tots, and Boger City United Methodist Church and First Presbyterian Church of Lincolnton, answered the community needs by beginning a Kindergarten class and preschool classes for children ages 3 to 5. Boger City United Methodist Church began a Mother’s Morning Out Program, which continues today as Parent’s Morning Out.
The number of students enrolled and served at BCUMC Preschool over the past five decades has been phenomenal as follows:
- Over 900 children were served between 1972 – 1989.
- Over 2,026 children were served between 1990 – 2022.
- Currently 80 children enrolled for 2022 – 2023..
BCUMC Preschool’s dedicated staff is continuing the mission of providing a Christian based outreach to our community. Their current staff includes Laura Ruby, Director/Teacher, Kim Fortenberry, Rhonda Franklin, Jane Lawing, Melissa Willis, Zealy Williams, Sherry Workman and Caren Martin.
There are limited openings for parents wishing to enroll their preschool age children in Boger City United Methodist Preschool for 2023 -2024.
