LINCOLNTON––Christian Ministry of Lincoln County’s recent annual meeting was a big success.
That’s the word Monday from its executive director, Mitzi Williams. Sharing key details of the Jan. 30 event, Williams cited her group’s annual book of reports for 2022.
“We had a good meeting,” she observed.
Among the items Williams highlighted at the meeting were:
$1.3 million worth of in-kind donations of food, household and personal items given out;
more than 25,000 volunteer hours donated (“At $7.25 an hour, that is more than $187,000,” she informed.);
a total of $2 million of in-kind donations, including volunteer hours, mileage, food, toys, household and personal items;
500,000 pounds of food given out through Christian Ministry’s pantry, soup kitchen, LINC Home-Delivered Meals, mobile pantries and its parking lot-based giveaways;
more than $89,000 given out to help folks with rent, utilities and medicines;
more than 27,000 meals served in the soup kitchen;
some 445 families each receiving a wheelbarrow of food through the ministry’s annual Christmastime efforts;
and 478 children who received new toys for Christmas.
“Our nursing home ministry is not well known,” Williams added, “but for many years––at least 40––prior to COVID, different groups would go into the local nursing homes and give a monthly birthday party. Our local nursing homes’ residents are ready to start this again! If any groups are interested in scheduling a day, please contact the ministry.”
