Perry Leonard McConnell
August 1, 1931 - September 3, 2020

DENVER, N.C. - Perry Leonard McConnell, 89, of Denver died September 3, 2020.

He was born on August 1, 1931 in Lincoln County to the late Ernest and Azalee McConnell.

Perry was the ultimate husband and father and worked hard to provide the best life for his family. He served in the Army during the Korean war stationed in Germany and married shortly after his return to the U.S. He and Jewell made Charlotte their home and raised their children in a loving, Christian-focused environment. Perry was an avid gardener and grew many fruits and vegetables that Jewell would can and freeze to enjoy year-round. Holidays, birthdays and anniversaries were extra special in the McConnell family and always celebrated with love and lots of great food! He also loved music and enjoyed gospel sing-a-longs at family reunions.

In retirement, Perry and Jewell enjoyed staying active in their home church at Trinity United Methodist where they had been members over 60 years, serving in various capacities as treasurer, secretary, members of Methodist Men/Women, choir, and always contributing to the special events like the annual BBQ. They had many great, lifelong friends there and enjoyed traveling with the Senior Citizens group.

Perry loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren very much. They will be blessed with memories of papaw reading the Christmas story of Jesus’ birth every Christmas Eve at the family gathering . . . and the epic paper-ball fights! He will be sorely missed by all.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Jewell McConnell and son-in-law, David Whittington.

Survivors include sons, Bradley McConnell (Meg) of Mooresville and Jason McConnell (Sarah) of Cornelius; daughters, Lisa Peterson (Chuck) of Huntersville and Carrie Whittington of Cornelius; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at James Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Howard officiating.

Memorials may be made to Trinity U.M.C. or Hospice of Lake Norman.

James Funeral Home of Huntersville, N.C. is serving the McConnell family.
