Bishop Franklin Eugene Lowery, age 62, pastor of Gold Hill Missionary Baptist Church, transitioned on Sunday, August 2, 2020 at Novant Health, Charlotte, after suffering a stroke.
He was born in Iredell County, North Carolina on September 4, 1957 to Mary Anderson Lowery and the late Franklin Lowery. He was a 1975 graduate of East Lincoln High School, a 1980 graduate of Belmont Abby College with a BA Degree in Recreation/Sociology. He was the Senior Pastor of Gold Hill Baptist Church and a Consecrated Bishop. He served as a Lincoln County magistrate for 18 years. He served as Tenant Program Coordinator for the Lincolnton Housing Authority from 1999-2011. He served on the boards of multiple Lincoln County civic groups.
His Funeral Service will be held Saturday, August 8, 2020 at 11 a.m. at the James W. Warren Citizens Center with burial to follow at Gold Hill Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery on Old Plank Road. The body may be viewed from 2-4 p.m. Friday, August 7, 2020 at the Ebony & White Funeral Home on East Pine Street in Lincolnton. Due to COVID-19, masks are required.
Survivors are his wife, Elder Sylvia B. Lowery of the home; two sons, Toriano (Nerissa) Lowery and Justin (Kristen) Lowery, all of Denver; his mother, Mary A. Lowery of Stanley; two brothers, Rev. Lewis Lowery and James Lowery; one sister, Celeste Frazier; and four grandchildren, Jeremiah, Heaven, Phoenix and Karys.
