Last year, the Apple Queen Pageant was held at the Lincoln Cultural Center.  Only parents of the contestants and those involved with the pageant were allowed to be in the audience there; everyone else had to watch the pageant online.

This year's pageant (Saturday night, August 7th) will be open to the public.  The doors to the James W. Warren Citizens Center will open at 5:30 and the pageant will begin at 6 PM.  Admission is $15 for adults and $10 for students.

Fifteen young ladies will compete for the title of Lincoln County Apple Queen 2021 and scholarships--$3,000 for the winner, $1,500 for the runner-up, and $1,000 for the second runner-up.

While the Apple Festival began in 1972, the very first Lincoln County Apple Queen was Billie Watts in 1978. Amy Heavner, crowned in 1994, was the only Queen to serve two years--there was no pageant in 1995.

The 2013 Apple Queen, Erica Miller, associated with the pageant for several years, will be taking over after this year's event from Cheryl Robinson Burgess as director of the pageant.  Burgess has been director since 2013.

The Apple Festival is still over two months away.  It used to be held the third Saturday in September, but after weather forced a postponement until October a few years ago, the decision was made to move the festival to October. [It was canceled only once--several years before because of the threat of a hurricane.] October is cooler, of course, and some varieties of apples aren't yet fully ripened in September.

The Apple Festival t-shirts haven't yet been printed, so you'll have to wait awhile on those.

The Festival is scheduled from 9 AM - 4 PM on Saturday October 16th. We'll post articles with more details closer to that date.
