Lt. Col. John Walker III
Lt. Col. John Walker III once lived in what is now Lincoln County.  He was important in the split of Tryon County that produced both Lincoln and Rutherford counties, and helped with the establishment of Burke County.  Six of his sons fought for the Patriots in the American Revolution.
