LINCOLNTON––Can you drive a box truck?

Want to help out in a worthy cause? If so, Christian Ministry needs you. That’s the word this week from executive director Mitzi Williams.

“We use our trucks to pick up food donations from local grocery stores,” Williams explained. “When we were given these trucks, the amount of food that we received doubled––all because we can go pick it up at the stores. So our trucks are amongst our most valuable ministry possessions. We need a few volunteers that have experience driving a box truck. Retired truck drivers, school bus drivers––we need you!”

If you’re interested in volunteering, call Woody Saunders at (704) 748-4961 or e-mail him at christianministry.volunteers@gmail.com.

In other news, the 25th annual benefit Christian Ministry Golf Tournament is coming up fast. It will be held Aug. 8 at the Lincoln Country Club. And as Williams informed, there are still nine more hole sponsorships that need to be filled. You or your business can sponsor a hole for $100.

Also needed, as Williams added, are “twelve more teams to meet last year’s totals. Players can call the Lincoln Country Club to set up a tee time and still be part of the tournament. This fundraiser will help us continue to pay rent bills and utility payments that are higher than we have ever seen before.”

As well, clothing closet volunteers are needed at the ministry.

“We continue to get calls asking if we are accepting clothing,” she said. “We cannot take in any clothing until we have more volunteers willing to help.”

If you are interested in helping once or twice a month, contact Saunders at the aforementioned phone number or e-mail address.

Elsewhere, the ministry’s pantry is low on breakfast food.

“Our most needed item is breakfast food,” said Williams. “This can be cereal, grits or oatmeal. We are also low on bar soap.”

Christian Ministry of Lincoln County is located at 230 E. Water St. in downtown Lincolnton. Call (704) 732-2691 or (704) 732-0383 for more information on these and other upcoming efforts, as well as volunteer opportunities for individuals and church and business groups.
