LINCOLNTON––“Spread the word!”

And that is the word this week from Arts Council of Lincoln County spokeswoman Deanna McGinnis, referring to the upcoming “Lincoln Idol” and “Lincoln Idol, Jr.” singing competitions.

You could be the next winner and become the county’s newest singing star, as McGinnis noted, citing the impending return of the singing events. She added that this would be the third round of the annual competitions, which are coming up in October. And the arts council is accepting applications right now.

“Come perform your heart out with the chance of being named ‘idol’ status!” said McGinnis.

She added that more than $3,000 in cash prizes would be awarded to the winners. Applicants will perform as individuals. The contestant fee is $40 per application. Contestant applications are available on the Website at

Auditions are scheduled for Sept. 10, 11 and 12. Auditions and competitions will be held at the Lincoln Cultural Center at 403 E. Main St. in Lincolnton. The “Idol, Jr.” will be held on Oct. 9, and “Idol” will be Oct. 10. Admission will be charged at the semi- finals and finals: $10 per night, per event, with general admission seating, as McGinnis told The Herald on Saturday.

“Auditions will be by appointment, starting at 5 p.m. on Sept 10 and 11,” she added. “On the 12th, we will have auditions starting at noon.”

McGinnis continued that the performances would be held nightly at 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday, Oct. 9 and 10.
