LINCOLNTON––It’s in the bag.
Yes, quite literally, at the Lincoln County Department of Senior Services. How? According to spokeswoman Darlene Stroupe, the department is in the midst of collecting handbags for the upcoming Walk to End Alzheimer’s Disease.
“And we need your help!” Stroupe told The Herald on Wednesday.
She added that senior services had a very good turn-out on Monday, with many folks bringing in purses, as well as other related items, to the department’s new digs at 612 Center Drive in Lincolnton. An upcoming purse sale will follow, as she also noted, and the date for that will be announced soon.
“Please donate your new or lightly used purses, scarves and accessories,” said Stroupe. “Clean your closets. Ask your friends and family. And spread the word!”
Stroupe added that senior services would continue its collection of purses and the aforementioned related items through Aug. 7. Just bring them by the department’s offices. All proceeds from sales will go to the Alzheimer’s Disease Association.
The local arm of the Walk to End Alzheimer’s Disease, comprising Lincoln, Gaston and Cleveland counties, is coming up on Saturday, Sept. 12 (see related coverage, only here in The Herald). And due to State-mandated virus-related restrictions, this year’s event won’t have a precise starting time or location. Folks are simply encouraged to get out and walk and raise money for this worthy cause, according to event representatives:
“The world may look a little different right now, but one thing hasn’t changed: our commitment to ending Alzheimer’s. This year, the Walk to End Alzheimer’s Disease is everywhere—on every sidewalk, track and trail. Your health and safety are our top priorities. This year’s event won’t be a large in-person gathering. Instead, we invite you to walk in small teams of friends and family, while others in your community do the same, because we are all still walking and fundraising for the same thing: a world without Alzheimer’s and all other dementia.”
Thus far, more than $13,000 out of a goal of $90,000 has been raised.
