West Lincoln High School Announces Top Grads
Towery, Shutt lead class of 2020

Thomas Lark
Staff Writer

WEST LINCOLN––West Lincoln High School is very proud of all its graduates in the class of 2020.

That’s the recent word from the school’s senior counselor, Amy Cable. She told The Herald this week that the valedictorian is Kelton Blake Towery (look for our exclusive coverage of him, only here in The Herald CLICK HERE). Cable added that the salutatorian is Isabella Kathryn Shutt (look for our coverage of her next week).

“West Lincoln High School’s class of 2020 has 185 seniors,” said Cable. “Graduation will be held on Friday, May 29. Final details are still being worked out and awaiting approval from the (Lincoln County Schools’) central office.

“A limelight hydrangea tree was dedicated to the class of 2020 on May 11,” she continued. “A video was made of the planting of the tree along with our principal, Dr. Nathan McLean, sharing a special message for the class of 2020 to ‘always remember that your roots run deep at West Lincoln High School.’ Teachers and staffers were also part of the video congratulating seniors.”

McLean also told The Herald what he’d tell his school’s grads.

“I would tell them to continue to persevere,” he said. “Work hard, but also, don’t forget to enjoy life.”

Cable continued that the video was shared on the school’s Website and Facebook page, as well as on other social media platforms. Another video is slated to be shared soon. It will feature teachers and staffers sharing special messages and memories for the seniors.

“Faculty and staffers placed congratulatory signs in each senior’s yard, with the hashtag, ‘#WLRebel4Life,’” Cable added. “Seniors will be able to share their 2020 memories using that hashtag. Congratulatory signs with each senior’s cap-and-gown picture on it were placed around the student parking lot at WLHS. Students, parents and members of the community have been driving through the parking lot enjoying the signs. The pandemic is definitely memorable and something that will never be forgotten. But so is West Lincoln’s class of 2020!”
