Gaston County Nixes Traditional Graduation

Lincoln Herald Staff

Catawba and Lincoln County schools will hold graduation events (not a traditional graduation cermony) on May 29th & 30th. If the pandemic doesn't worsen, Catawba County plans to hold a traditional graduation on either July 24th or (in case of bad weather that day) July 25th.

Lincoln County Schools will hope to also do a traditional graduation ceremony on July 31st or August 1st.

Gaston County Schools won't be having any traditional graduation ceremony this year.

Superintendent Jeff Booker announced Monday afternoon (May 18th) that Gaston County's 13 high schools will instead have a mixed celebration.
Graduates will walk across the stage in 10-minute increments. Up to eight family members will be allowed to attend.

Gaston County Schools will also have a 'virtual' ceremony to be streamed online by each high school. That wil include pre-recorded speeches, yearbook photos of graduates and junior marshals, etc. It will be available for viewing on Facebook & YouTube June 13th.
