ALEXIS  --- Tri-County Animal is featuring three Rescue Pets of the Week. Our first one is this beautiful Chihuahua/Dachshund (Chiweenie) mix named Peanut.  This little man is 8 months old and weighs about 10-12 pounds.  He will stay small as an adult.  Peanut has a lovely tan/white coat.  The grooming for Peanut is very simple…bath and brushing.  Peanut is very much a puppy and has lots of energy.  Peanut is neutered, current on vaccines and micro-chipped.  Come on out…we will be looking for you.

Chihuahuas are comical, entertaining, and loyal little dogs. They are absolutely brimming with personality – often a quirky and eccentric personality unmatched by any other breed.  Chihuahuas do seem to recognize and prefer their own breed, so it's a great idea to keep two of them. They keep each other company when you're gone, they play together, clean each other's ears (Chihuahuas can be obsessive ear-lickers!), and keep each other warm by snuggling together.

Chihuahuas adore warmth! They will seek out the tiniest sunspot in which to bask, and they tunnel under blankets and towels. You have to be careful whenever you sit down on your sofa or bed, as there could be a Chihuahua tucked under there!

If you want a dog that: is small and easy to carry, comes in several different coats and colors, is oh-so-funny and entertaining in quirky ways, is very loyal, travels well, doesn't need much exercise, LOVES warm sunny climates, usually has a long lifespan…..then a Chihuahua may be right for you!

Another Rescue Pet of the Week is a lovely boy named Bandit.  He is an English Setter and is 3 years old.  Bandit is a sweet boy that weighs about 50 pounds.  He gets along with other dogs and LOVES people.  Bandit was surrendered to us because previous owner has moved in with family and cannot keep him.  Bandit has beautiful longer hair that washes well. He is neutered, current on vaccines and micro-chipped.

Known as "the moderate setter," the graceful English Setter's love of people and easygoing nature can make him a super friend for an active family as well as a fine hunting dog. He's not as rollicking as the Irish setter nor as standoffish toward strangers as the Gordon Setter. Gentle, kind, and affectionate, he's devoted to his family, sociable with strangers, and gets along just fine with kids.

While he isn't precise enough to achieve the highest scores in obedience competition, he is moderately easy to train. The English Setter is a good watchdog and will bark to alert his people that someone is approaching the house. Once he's introduced to guests, however, he happily accepts their presence. All these qualities make him a good choice for a first-time dog owner who appreciates this breed's beauty and sweetness and can provide him with the exercise he needs.

English Setters are quiet indoors, but outside they love to run and play with other dogs and people. A daily run, off-leash play in a fenced area, or an energetic hike through a nearby park or wilderness area will be just this English breed's cup of tea.

Our last Animal Rescue Pet of the Week is a beautiful Terrier mix named Trouble.  He is 2 years old and weighs about 20-25 pounds.  Do not think his name reflects his personality because he is precious.  Trouble has beautiful red short hair which makes grooming very simple…bath and brushing.  Trouble is shy when first meeting you but warms up fast. He is good with everyone, especially kids, and gets along with other pets.  Trouble is neutered, current on vaccines and micro-chipped.  Come on out…we will be looking for you this Saturday.

The Terrier has sometimes been described as having a dual personality. He is a fearless, tenacious hunter with seemingly unlimited energy. When he is not hunting, however, the Terrier is an exceptionally friendly companion, getting along well with children, other dogs, and even cats.  Their lifespan is 15+ years on average.  The Terrier temperament: Intelligent, Affectionate, Alert, Inquisitive, Lively, Loving, Fearlessly game for just about anything, Friendly, Inquisitive, Lovable, Friendly, lovable and inquisitive.

Please come out to our adoption event this weekend.  If you are looking for an addition to your family, come out and meet our pets.  We have many available pets at the Gastonia PetSmart located at 3698 East Franklin Boulevard this Saturday noon to 6 p.m.
