At their December 2nd meeting, Lincoln County Commissioners heard from United Way Director Kathy Vinzant, who asked their approval to establish a Resource Center and Food Pantry at West Lincoln Middle School.

Vinzant told Commissioners "Food insecurity and access to basic needs due to the distance and lack of transportation to access the ARC at Asbury makes this necessary. We want to remove some of the barriers to help further learning. Kids can't learn if they are hungry and or lack basic needs."  She told Commissioners work on the project would begin over the Christmas break and hoped to have it completed by January.

Similar to the Asbury Resource Center that opened in 2016, the new West Lincoln ARC was completed on Wednesday (Jan. 8th).

“The Asbury ARC continues to be an amazing resource for Lincoln County students and their families,” Vinzant said. "On a recent visit to West Lincoln, I was surprised--almost shocked--to see that there were also a significant number of students in that area that were in need."

Vinzant expressed her appreciation to those who helped with the West Lincoln project Wednesday: "Thank you to all the volunteers that made the ARC possible in Western Lincoln County today. Thanks to the CAC [Child Advocacy Center] for learning of the ARC and sending clothes. Thank you Cathy Davis for stopping by to bring clothes, Michelle Bernard and HD Reid for sharing our story. It lets people know its purpose: Serve our kids, remove barriers so they can learn.

"To God Be The Glory for sending us angels and for the Asbury UMC crew for preparing all the racks and donations shared from the originating ARC. It takes a village and this crew has been in it since the start. Thank you AUMC Crew. You make it happen."

At an Open House just before school started last Fall, the Asbury Resource Center served 185 students.  The ARC is available throughout the year so teachers who see students in need of clothing, supplies, etc. can get help for them from the ARC.  The West Lincoln Resource Center will operate in a similar manner.
