NC MedAssist is holding a Mobile Free Pharmacy Event in Lincoln County on Wednesday, October 2. The event is open to any individual or family needing over-the-counter medications. Participants must be at least 18-years-old to receive medicine. Everyone will receive up to eight OTC items free of charge. No identification is required.

Catawba County Animal Services has confirmed the county’s sixth rabies case of 2019 following an incident in Maiden. Previous cases reported to the county this year occurred in Claremont, Hickory, Maiden and Newton.

Ella May Wiggins To Be Commemorated Sept. 14
Sept. 14 will mark the 90th anniversary of the murder of Ella May Wiggins. A famous labor organizer, mill worker and key figure in Gastonia’s Loray Mill Strike of 1929, Wiggins––known by all who knew her simply as Ella May––was gunned down by thugs commonly believed to have been hired by a mill owner or owners. It was an event that reverberated down through local, regional and national history for generations.

United Way is still seeking additional volunteers to support the Day of Action projects.

The Hickory Aviation Museum unveiled the newly restored Republic F-105 Thunderchief to a group of museum volunteers on Sunday, July 21. These volunteers, led by retired Navy Chief Mike Deacon, spent almost three years on the restoration project.
