More Fans Allowed At Football Games--But Not Until Friday
The biggest sports news this Wednesday is that Governor Roy Cooper has reduced the restrictions on high school football attendance.  Unfortunately, Cooper's older executive order doesn't expire until Friday evening--and some games have been moved up because of weather concerns.  Here's that story and more from sports.

Cherryville won at Lincoln Charter Tuesday evening, handing the Eagles their first conference loss in two years.  North Lincoln moved with a game of taking its first South Fork Conference basketball title; and Newton-Conover continued to dominate the girls conference standings.

It’s nearly half a century now since Gaston College has had an athletics program. But efforts are now afoot to bring sports back to the college. Fred T. Foard's volleyball team won its 50th match in a row--and its second consecutive NCHSAA 2A Volleyball Championship--with a 3-0 victory over McMichael High School from Rockingham County on Saturday (Jan. 23rd) in Cary.
Mtn. Island Charter lost in the 1A championship match to East Wake Academy.

Behind the record-setting performance of Angie Allen, the North Lincoln girls finally moved up from #2 to take a state championship at the NCHSAA 2A Cross Country State Championship Friday in Kernersville.  The North boys also won, their fourth state title in a row.

Their 27th win in a row set up a battle of the cats, as the Fred T. Foard Tigers will host the Patton Panthers in the third round of the NCHSAA 2A Volleyball Playoffs on Saturday.  Mtn. Island Charter will host Alleghany in the 1A playoffs Saturday after beating Highland Tech.

North Lincoln and East Lincoln fans will be making trips to Iredell County  to see some of their teams' games;  Lincoln Charter will be playing mostly other charter schools; and Cherryville will be in a conference with Shelby and Burns.  The NCHSAA has released the first draft of its conference realignment for 2021.
