The Lincolnton Wolves handed the defending state champion North Lincoln Knights their first loss of the season Tuesday. LHS won 8-3 to improve to 4-0 on the season. The Knights are now 3-1.  Gavin Queen allowed just two runs on two hits in five innings and E.J. Manjarres pitched the last two innings and got the save.   North scored two runs in the first inning, but Lincolnton answered with seven of its own. Sam Carpenter went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in and scored a run; Ethan Register’s base hit scored three more. Kyle Brittain was 2-for-3 for the Knights; Jake Soorus had two RBIs. Lincolnton will play at Maiden Thursday (March 12th); the JV game starts at 4 PM with the varsity to follow. North will host Bandys; the JVs play at 4 and the varsity at 7 PM.

West Lincoln beat East Lincoln 6-2. The Rebels scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning and that was all they needed, but they added a run in the fifth and two in the sixth. Kelton Towery went five innings and picked up the win; Chris Moxley struck out five Mustangs batters over the final two innings in relief. Chandler Carpenter went 3 for 3 at the plate, scored a run and drove in one; Brett Mason was 2 for 3; Judd Harrelson was one for three--his double drove in three runs. For East, Garrett Michel went 2 for 4 driving in both of the Mustangs runs. West will host Cherryville Wednesday (March 11th); the JVs play at 4, the varsity at 7. East Lincoln will host East Rutherford at 7 PM Wednesday. West will play at Lake Norman Charter Friday; Cherryville will play at Piedmont Charter in Gastonia Thursday and play North Stanly in a 5 PM game Saturday at South Stanly High School in Norwood.

The Maiden Blue Devils picked up their fourth win without a loss Monday with a 10-0 win over Newton-Conover. Dalton James and Bain Sipe teamed up for a no-hitter. James went five innings, striking out 10 Red Devils batters; Sipe struck out four in two innings. Maiden scored in every inning but the second. Carlos Reynoso went 2 for 4 driving in three runs; he also had a stolen base. Dylan Abernethy went 2 for 5 including a double. The Blue Devils host Bunker Hill Wednesday. The Jvs play at 4, varsity at 7. Maiden will host Lincolnton on Thursday.

Lincoln Charter won its Tuesday game against Thomas Jefferson Academy 4-3. The Eagles scored two runs each in the fifth and sixth innings; Thomas Jefferson got three off reliever Davis Al-Hussaini in the bottom of the sixth, but the Eagles held on for the win. Starter Anish Patel didn't give up any hits, but he walked two batters and had a wild pitch. Mason Smith pitched one inning. Al-Hussaini struck out five batters in getting the win. At the plate, Max McCreary had 2 hits in four at-bats; Patel went 2 for 3, scored a run and drove in a run; Nicky Al-Hussaini drove in two runs; and Smith wen 2 for 3 and scored a run. The Eagles will host Legion Collegiate Academy from Rock Hill Friday.


In softball, North Lincoln beat Lincolnton 16-0 Wednesday. The Knights will play at Crest Wednesday (6 PM) and will host Bandys on Friday. LHS will host Cherryville Wednesday (4:30 PM) & play at Maiden Thursday.

East Lincoln beat West Lincoln 10-6. Junior Payton Baker was the winning pitcher, going the distance and striking out 12 while walking two. Katelyn Crowe went 2 for 4 and had a home run. She drove in five of the Mustangs runs. Haley Erwin was 2 for 3. Meredith Summey knows how to take a pitch; she walked three times. She and Erwin both stole two bases. East Lincoln will host South Point at 6 PM Wednesday. West Lincoln will play Lake Norman Charter on Friday.


In girls soccer, West Lincoln downed Cherryville Tuesday 3-0. West will travel to East Burke Friday. Cherryville will plat at Piedmont Charter Thursday.

North Lincoln tied Shelby on Monday 1-1. North will play at Foard Thursday and will host Stuart Cramer Friday.

East Lincoln lost for the first time this year 2-0 at Foard Monday. The Mustangs will be at Draughn Thursday.

Lincolnton beat Kings Mtn. 8-0 Monday. They don't have another match until next week.

Maiden beat North Gaston Monday 5-3. They'll play at St. Stephens Wednesday.
