Shelby 42, West Lincoln 7
West took the opening kickoff and went three and out, Shelby then fumbled on its first possession, but the Rebels couldn't move the ball again; Donye Fuller then scored on a 7-yard run on Shelby's second possession and Caden Shealy's kick made it 7-0.  In the second quarter Shelby got a first & goal at the Rebels' 7-yard line, but penalties moved the ball back.  From the West 20, Shelby's Isaiah Bess threw an incomplete pass on second down, then completed a pass to Ja'hari Mitchell for a touchdown and Shealy's kick made it 14-0 with four minutes left in the first half.  After Shelby kicked off following their second TD, Mason Huitt ran 65 yards for a West Lincoln TD and Alex Gutierrez kicked the EP to cut the lead to 14-7. With two minutes left in the first half, Mitchell ran 7 yards for another TD for the Lions and the kick made it 21-0.

Shelby took the second half kickoff and turned the drive into another TD as Mitchell again ran for a touchdown and Shealy's kick made it 28-7. Shelby scored again as Donye Fuller ran for an 14-yard TD and the Shealy kick made it 35-7.  Then with six minutes to go, Bess hit Diavonni Daley for another TD and the EP kick made it 42-7 and that was the final score.

The Rebels' season ends with a 9-4 record, their best ever including their first two playoff wins.  Shelby, now 13-1 will try to do what they did in mid-October: beat the Burns Bulldogs on the Golden Lions' home field.

Burns 30, North Lincoln 27 in Overtime
North Lincoln took the opening kickoff and started at their 22-yard line.  Sam Brady ran 14 yards for what would have been a touchdown, but a holding penalty brought the ball back.  From the Burns 22, Landon Beard threw a pass that was intercepted by Jaquan Degree, who returned it to the Bulldogs' 40-yard line, but a penalty for a block in the back brought the ball back to the 12-yd line, but the turnover had put the ball in the Bulldogs hands.   They went three and out, then Ty Williams ran 56 yards for a touchdown and Ian Fiore's kick made it 7-0. In the second quarter, the Knights drove to the Burns 17-yard line.  Ian Fiore tried a 24-yard field goal, but there was a bad snap and the kick was missed.  Burns then got a long run after catching a Cam'Ron Sweezy pass from the Bulldogs' 20 to the North Lincoln 10, but he fumbled and North recovered.  Landon Beard then ran 89 yards for another Knights' TD.  North tried for two on the EP, but a false start moved the ball back five yards, so Fiore kicked and made the EP to give North a 14-0 lead. With four minutes left in the second quarter,  Cam’ron Sweezy's 65-yard pass to Kasen Twitty gave Burns a touchdown and Zach Benfield's EP kick made it 14-7. As the first half was about to end, North made it to the Bulldogs' 8-yard line with 13 seconds left.  Jake Soorus ran the ball to the three-yard line and North called another timeout with six seconds left in the half.  Fiore then kicked a 20-yard field goal to give the Knights a 17-7 lead.

Burns took the second half kickoff and marched 66 yards ending the drive with an 11-yard TD run by Kujuan Pryor.  Benfield's EP kick made it 17-14. When North couldn't move the ball on their first possession of the second half, the Bulldogs scored again on a 59-yard pass from Sweezy to KJ Leslie and Benfield's kick put Burns up 21-17. For North Lincoln, it was the first time since the West Lincoln game the Knights had trailed.

With 6:15 left in the 4th quarter, Williams ran 29 yards for another TD for the Knights and Fiore's kick put North on top again 24-21. With two minutes left in the  game after North sacked Sweezy on third down, he completed a pass on 4th down to get a first down in North Lincoln territory.  Pryor then ran the ball to the North Lincoln 35 and then to the Knights' 27-yard line.  He was stopped on the next play but then ran to the North 5-yard line.  With 26 seconds left in the game, he ran again but was tackled at the 10-yard line. Burns called a timeout.  Sweezy was then tackled at the 12-yard line and with 12 seconds left, spiked the ball.  Zach Benfield came on to try a field goal. North called a timeout and Benfield kicked a 29-yard field goal with 8 seconds left to tie the game.

In overtime, North Lincoln got the ball first.  On 1st down, Soorus ran 3 yards to the seven.  On second down, Soorus ran again for 3 more yards to the 4-yard line.  Beard ran on third down and was stopped at the 3-yard line.  Fiore kicked a field goal on fourth down to give his team a 27-24 lead.

On the Bulldogs' possession, Sweezy ran for a 10-yard TD on the first play to give his team the victory 30-27.  The Knights' season ends with a 12-2 record.  The Bulldogs will have a rematch with Shelby next Friday for the west region 2A championship.

Kings Mountain 17, A.C. Reynolds 10
The Mountaineers got to the Rockets' one-yard line thanks to a blocked punt, but couldn't score, turning it over on downs.  Then they got a safety to take a 2-0 lead.  When the Mounties couldn't move the ball after the kickoff following the safety, they punted and downed the ball at the Rockets 2-yard line. Midway through the 2nd period, the Rockets hit a 30-yard field goal to make it 3-2; then they scored on a one-yard run with less than a minute left until halftime and the EP kick made it 10-2.

In the third quarter, Rashaard Brooks ran for a Mounties TD and a pass to Kobe Paysour by Ethan Reid tied the game at 10-all. In the final period, Ricaylen Mack ran 7 yards for another Kings Mountain TD and the EP kick by Austin Browning made it 17-10 and that was the final score.

Next Friday, Kings Mountain gets the rematch the Mountaineers wanted: they play at Charlotte Catholic--the team that eliminated them in the 3A west regional championship game last season en route to a state title.  The Cougars mauled West Rowan 42-9 Friday night.

East Surry 26, Mountain Island Charter 14
The Cardinals took the opening kickoff and marched for a score, the EP kick was missed and it was 6-0. East Surry scored again early in the second period and kicked the EP for a 13-0 lead. Elijah Burris got the Raptors on the board with two minutes left until halftime and the kick made it 13-7.

In the second half, the Cardinals scored to take a 19-7 lead; then the Raptors scored and kicked the EP to cut the lead to 19-14. East Surry scored again with five minutes left in the game to lead 26-14 and that became the final score.

Thomas Jefferson 35,  Elkin 14
Leading 21-14 at the half, the Gryphons poured it on in the second half for a 35-14 victory. Thomas Jefferson travels to Robbinsville next Friday to play the unbeaten Black Knights for the west region 1A championship.
