Basketball Scores/Schedule

In Tuesday night basketball games, Lincolnton split a pair with Ashbrook; Cherryville's boys beat North Gaston; and the Maiden boys lost to Bunker Hill.

We didn't get a report on the games, but we talked with team members and the Lincolnton boys won their first game of the season beating Ashbrook Tuesday night; the Lincolnton girls lost.

We didn't get a report on the girls game, but Cherryville's boys beat North Gaston 79-59 to improve to 3-0 on the season. Lane Harrill had 28 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists for the Ironmen. Lavonte Hughes had 17 points and 9 assists; Carson Kelly scored 11 points; and Dylan Harden had 8 points and 8 rebounds.  For North Gaston, Kirk Scoggins had 17 points.

Lincolnton beat Ashbrook 82-58. Davis Grooms had 22 points, Amontre Finger had 17, DeJarris Gash 14 and Conner Williams 12.

The Wolves' next game will be at Alexander Central next Monday.

The East Lincoln Mustangs lost to Statesville in their opening game of the basketball season Monday night (Nov. 25th).

East Lincoln led 34-26 at halftime, but the Greyhounds outscored them 44-30 in the 2nd half to take the non-conference game by a score of 69-64 Monday night in Statesville.

East Lincoln had three players in double figures: senior forward Justin Kuthan had a double-double with 32 points and 11 rebounds. Senior guard Myles Adams added 18 points, and sophomore guard Jeremiah Jones also had a double-double with 10 points and 11 assists.

The Mustangs will be at Kimmel Arena at UNC-Asheville in the Coaches vs. Cancer tournament against the AC Reynolds Rockets on Saturday (Nov. 30th) playing at 7:00 PM.

Statesville (0-0, 2-0): Messiah Robinson 10, Torrey Miller 5, Jasiah Gathings 16,
Miykei Fields 14, Chris Brown 16, Roderick Williams 0, Terez Hamilton 8, Lashun Colemon 0

East Lincoln (0-0, 0-1): Jeremiah Jones 10, Matthew McCowan 2, Myles Adams 18, Drew Bean 0, Ethan Staples 2, Justin Brown 0, Justin Kuthan 32, Petey Nichols 0

The East Lincoln girls also lost by five points 67-62. They, too, led at halftime, 29-28, but Statesville used a strong fourth quarter to claim the win. For East, Ginny Overbay finished with 12 points, Taliyah Thomas had 10. Last season's leading scorer for East, Brianna Tadlock, was held to 9 points.

The East Lincoln girls won't play again until next Thursday (Dec. 5th) when they'll
play at South Iredell.

The West Lincoln teams also lost a pair Monday night.

The West boys fell to Fred T. Foard 58-32 and the girls lost 65-26. Sophomore Alexis Wolgemuth scored 22 points for Foard.

West will play at East Burke next Tuesday and at Cherryville next Friday.
North Lincoln's boys also had a tough night. The Knights lost to Bessemer City 58-54; but the North Lincoln girls beat the Yellow Jackets 55-34.

In the girls game, North trailed 10-8 at the end of the first quarter, but scored 18 points in the second to take a 26-20 halftime lead. The outscored the Yellow Jackets girls 29-14 in the second half. The North Lincoln girls are now 3-0 so far this season.

The Knights teams will host the Yellow Jackets next Tuesday in their next outing.
Lincolnton and Maiden open their 2019-2020 season playing home games Tuesday evening (Nov. 26th). Bandys will play at Hibriten in its season opener on Tuesday. Cherryville will host North Gaston, East Gaston will play at Stuart Cramer, Burns will play at Mitchell.
