North Lincoln's girls finished in 4th place at the NCHSAA 3A track & field championships at NC A&T University in Greensboro Friday. The Bandys boys finished in 3rd place in the 2A competition.
Lincolnton's Katherine Hopkins finished second in the girls 1600-meter run. Paige Oldenburg of Bandys finished third. Oldenburg was 2nd in the 2A girls 3200-meter run.
Callie Stamey of Maiden was 3rd in the girls 300-meter hurdles.
David Birkhofer, Jr. of Bandys was 4th in the 2A boys 800-meter run. The Trojans' Grant Parham was second in the boys 1600-meters.
Lincoln Charter's A-team of Brandon Wright, Manix Ferreira, Joel McCloskey and Matthew Radin finished 2nd in the boys 4x800 relay. Kage Hefner of Bandys was 4th in the pole vault. The Trojans' Austin Cline was second in the shot put and 5th in the discus throw. In the triple jump, Chance Stull of Maiden was 3rd.
In the 3A girls 1600-meter run, Lori Glavan of North Lincoln finsihed 4th; Cara Castro was 7th. East Lincoln's Macy Parks finished 6th. In the 3200-meter run, Kelbi Pierce of North finished 3rd; Glavan was 6th and Bella Wood 7th. Bella Green of North was 5th in the girls 800-meter run.
In thee 3A girls 4x800 relay, the North Lincoln quartet of Blythe Jaworsky, Bella Green, Bella Wood & Kelbi Pierce finished 3rd. In the girls pole vault, Chloe Soorus of North finished in a four-way tie for 4th place. In the discus throw, Carly Correll was 4th.
In the 3A boys 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles, North's Liam Sutton took 2nd place. The North Lincoln team of Jeremiah Sellers, Immanuel Mayner, Cameron Rice and Sutton took first place in the boys 4x100 relay; East Lincoln's OJ Howell-Johnson, Keandre Walker, Christopher Dailey and Jaylen Roseboro finished third.
The 1A state championship meet was held Saturday. Mountain Island Charter won the boys state title for the second straight year. Trevin Moyer won the 100-meter, 200-meter and 400-meter dashes. The Raptors also won a pair of relay races. Cherryville got a first place in the boys 4x400 relay. Mason Grindstaff, Cooper Sloan, Jack Mulvey & Jackson Owens finished first. In the girls competition, Highland Tech's Lauren Tolbert won the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes and set a 1A state meet record in the 800-meter run.
