TENNIS Lincoln Charter's boys tennis team is just two wins away from a NCHSAA 2A state championship. The Eagles won five of six singles matches Monday to advance to the semi-finals against another team from the Catawba Shores Conference, Pine Lake Prep. The Mooresville team beat the Eagles 5-4 on April 19th, but Lincoln Charter won their first meeting this season 6-3. Pine Lake Prep won Monday 5-1 over Burns. The semi-finals match will be played at Community School of Davidson's Spartan Park.
Winners on Monday were Jacob Reis 6-1, 6-4; Connor Milligan 1-6, 7-6 and 1-0 tiebreaker; Grayson Upchurch 6-0, 6-3; Noah Cochran 6-3, 7-5; and Ryan Hughes 6-0, 6-2.
GOLF The Lincoln Charter boys golf team plays its second round in the NCHSAA 2A state championships at Foxfire Golf Club near Pinehurst on Tuesday. In the first round on Monday, Lincoln Charter and Bandys were tied for 6th place. Dyanni Rhyne of Lincoln Charter shot an 80 and was tied for 16th with four other golfers including Atley Gabriel of Bandys. Lawson Harkey of West Lincoln shot an 81 and was tied for 21st.
BASEBALL The NCHSAA announced its baseball and softball playoff brackets Monday. The games will be played at the home field of the higher seeded team and will be a single elimination tournament until the regionals, which will be a three-game series.
In the 2A bracket, Lincolnton was the last team to make the field and was seeded #32. The Wolves will play at #1 seed Randleman on Tuesday. Lincoln Charter was seeded #7 and will host #26 Surry Central. Bandys was seeded #9 and will host #24 Shelby.
In 3A play, North Lincoln was seeded #5 and East Lincoln #11. The Knights will host #28 North Iredell and the Mustangs will play at home against #22 Forestview on Tuesday. Fred T. Foard was seeded #13 and will host #20 North Davidson.
Cherryville got the #3 seed in the 1A playoffs and will host #30 Piedmont Community on Tuesday.
SOFTBALL In the softball playoffs, East Lincoln got the #1 seed in the west region and will host #32 West Charlotte in the first round. North Lincoln got the #14 seed and will host #19 Enka. Fred T. Foard was seeded #28 and will play at #5 Central Cabarrus.
In the 2A softball playoffs, West Lincoln was seeded #18 and will play at #15 R-S Central. Lincoln Charter was seeded #9 and will host #24 Wilkes Central. Bandys got the #6 seed and will host #27 East Gaston.
