Parks & Rec Shelter Reservations Now Open
It’s not too soon to be thinking about reserving local picnic shelters at the county’s parks. Reservations for this year are now being taken based on a block schedule for half a day or full day reservations only. And the official kick-off and registration for the Senior Games begins Feb. 1.

Most notable contestants were Keith St. Onge, 19 time National Champion and 11 time World Gold Medalist, and Rachel Normand, former Woman’s World Champion and 2018 Senior Women’s World Champion.

To say Shelby's Golden Lions have been here before would be the obvious.  A few players on this year's team may have been a part of the team in 2016--but the school's football teams have made 13 NCHSAA championship game appearances, and they've won nine NCHSAA state championships.

The Men’s All-Conference Team for soccer in the South Fork Athletic Conference was recently released.  Newton-Conover had five players named All-Conference, East Lincoln and Bandys with four each, Lincolnton had three, North Lincoln with two, and Maiden and West Lincoln with one each.

A local 10-year-old is making sports history. He is Tre Vella, and he is the youngest eskrimador in history to pass the sixth level and completion of the art in balintawak arnis. Eskrima––or balintawak arnis––is an indigenous sport and stick-fighting martial art of the Philippines.
