Health Dept. Drive-Thru Clinic Appts. Apparently Filled
The Lincoln County Health Dept. issued a news release Tuesday afternoon (Jan. 19th) about its first COVID-19 mass vaccination clinic scheduled for Thursday (Jan. 21st).  Some who saw that notice got appointments, but others didn't get one in time.

Lincoln County Schedules First Mass Vaccination Clinic
Until Tuesday (Jan. 19th) the Lincoln County Health Dept. had only been scheduling appointments for the COVID-19 vaccination for those 75 and older.  Now they've announced the county's first mass vaccination clinic for this Thursday (Jan. 21st) at Denver, and those 65 and older can ask for an appointment. Hickory Stabbing
A Hickory man has been charged with murder after he allegedly stabbed two people; one of them, his mother, died from the injuries; the other, a man, is expected to survive.  The suspect barricaded himself in a home but surrendered after a two-hour standoff.

The forecast said there would be snow.  It did  snow in the mountains, and a little in the foothills around Hickory, but for the rest of our area, it didn't amount to much for most of the day-and doesn't appear likely to be a major problem now.  The forecast caused area school systems to make cancellation announcements.

Lincoln Charter Will Continue Virtual Learning

Man Who Shot Cop Arrested
The man who allegedly shot a Kings Mountain Police officer on Saturday Dec. 19th will have a first appearance in court Tuesday (Dec. 29th).  Antonio Cortez Anthony faces multiple charges.  The officer, Cpl. Frank Lee Whittington, Jr. was released from the hospital last week.

It's a domestic violence case, but not the typical kind.  Nobody was physically injured (at least not during the Christmas eve incident), but someone could have been.  The Catawba County Sheriff's Office arrested a Taylorsville woman an charged her with first degree arson.

Christmas Eve was marred by a traffic fatality in west Gastonia.  A Kings Mountain man was killed when he was struck by a vehicle on W. Franklin Blvd. The hit and run fatality was reported early Thursday morning.

YMCA's Strict Standards Yield Low COVID Rates
A study of YMCA fitness centers was conducted, Sept. 4-Nov. 30. It revealed that with 1.3 million visits to 89 YMCA’s statewide, there were only 57 COVID cases: an infinitesimal positivity rate of just .0045 percent.

Cooper Issues New Restrictions, Threatens More
Governor Roy Cooper issued a new modified stay at home order Tuesday.  It will bring what amounts to a curfew to the state effective Friday (Dec. 11th).  Stores will be required to close at 10 PM, alcoholic beverage sales at 9, and the governor threatened more restrictions if the numbers don't improve.
