LINCOLNTON, N.C. - Lincoln County Sheriff's detectives and Charlie District deputies are investigating a shooting incident that left a man with leg wounds.
Deputies were dispatched to a residence at 6662 Denver Heights Circle, Denver, NC Sunday afternoon (January 16, 2022) after the Lincoln County Communications Center received a report concerning the incident.
When deputies arrived on the scene they discovered the victim lying in the hallway of the residence with a gunshot wound to the legs. The victim's girlfriend told officers that her brother, Nathaniel Ray Maguire, 21, of Sienna Lane, Denver, NC drove to the residence, kicked in the front door and shot Kevin James Potter, 35, of Falcon Ridge Road, Maiden, NC in the legs. Maguire then fled the scene. The girlfriend told deputies her brother was upset over an assault on a female charge filed on Potter involving her. Potter was treated at the scene by Lincoln County EMS then transported to the hospital.
Deputies located Maguire at his residence and took him into custody without incident. Nathaniel Ray Maguire was taken before a Lincoln County magistrate and placed in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center under a $40,000 secured bond.
