Upcoming Road Closures (UPDATED)

Lincoln County Government
Press Release

LINCOLNTON, NC – Lincoln County Emergency Management has been notified of the following road closures by CSX for rail replacement and repair:

When/Where: Wednesday, January 12 starting at 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. – Pine Ridge Dr.; Thursday, January 13 starting at 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. – Campground Rd.; Monday, January 17 – Optimist Club Rd.

These locations will be closed to through traffic. This closure has been requested by the CSX Railroad for repairs and replacement needed for sections of railroad tracks.

Information about the closure and detours is as follows:

Pine Ridge Dr. – Will be closed starting Wednesday, January 12 at 7 a.m. until approximately 7 p.m. There will be no access through to this location with the exception of emergency responders through gated access.

Campground Rd. – Will be closed starting Thursday, January 13 at 7 a.m. until approximately 7 p.m. All traffic will have to detour back to Highway 16 and up to NC 150 to reach the Catawba Side of Campground Rd./Slanting Bridge Rd.

Optimist Club Rd. – Will be closed starting Monday, January 17 at 7 a.m. until repairs are finished.

Increased Travel Time & Detours: Through traffic is advised to avoid these areas during the closure period as there will be significant impacts to all roadway users. Roadway users are advised to use alternative routes until the project work is completed. Detour signs and electronic message boards will be in place to alert motorists, pedestrians, and bicyclists about the temporary road closure.

Construction Activities: Project work includes CSX making repairs and replacing timbers and tracks at these locations.

Closure Period: Lincoln County understands the challenges and inconveniences that commuters, residents, businesses, bicyclists and pedestrians will experience during the closure periods and ask for patience and cooperation as the work is done to complete this project.

NOTE: A Lincoln Herald reader contacted us Saturday about the effect the closure might have on a large number of homes on Pine Ridge Drive.  We checked with Emergency Services Director Ron Rombs and he confirmed that access to those homes by law enforcement, fire departments, and other emergency services will have access through a gated community and while the closure may cause an inconvenience, it will not stop emergency personnel from getting to those homes.
