On Tuesday night (Dec.21st) at approximately 11:20 PM, the Hickory Police Department received a 9-1-1 call from 1655 20th Avenue Drive NE telling them that a robbery was in progress in the parking lot of the apartment complex.
The caller said two men were assaulting a female subject in the parking lot and appeared to be trying to steal her vehicle. While the caller was on the phone with dispatchers, one of them fired several shots at the caller who was still inside one of the apartments.
About five minutes later, Hickory Police received a call from the victim of the reported assault. She advised that two men in ther 20s had held a gun to her head and stolen her 2007 Mazda.
While responding to the armed robbery, officers observed the stolen Mazda at the intersection of 16th Street NE and 12th Avenue NE. The vehicle was occupied by the two suspects. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle but they fled.
Officers pursued to the parking lot of the Food Lion at 3220 Springs Rd NE. There the suspects hit a utility pole, exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Officers pursued and took them into custody. A firearm was found in the vehicle.
Both suspects were transported to the Hickory Police Department where Deonte Clark, 29, and Keon Abraham, 22, both from Statesville, were charged: Deonte Clark with attempted first degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, discharging a weapon into an occupied dwelling, robbery with a dangerous weapon, possession of a firearm by a felon, second degree kidnapping, larceny of a motor vehicle, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, discharging a firearm in the city limits and resisting a public officer; Keon Abraham with robbery with a dangerous weapon, larceny of a motor vehicle, felony fleeing to elude arrest, felony aiding and abetting attempted first degree murder, felony aiding and abettomg second degree kidnapping, and resisting a public officer.
Both suspects are currently being held at the Catawba County Detention Center with no bond.
