Man Charged In Theft Of Wire From House Under Construction

LINCOLNTON, N.C. – A Lincoln County man has been charged with stealing copper wire from a residence under construction.

On December 14, 2021 deputies were dispatched to the 2700 block of West NC 27 Hwy reference a larceny. The owner of the construction company told officers while his employees were on the scene working they used a generator for electricity and not the wiring installed in the residence.

When the electricity to the house was turned on workers discovered that the wiring in the crawl space had been cut out. Damage was estimated at approximately $1,000.

A trail camera set up on the property shows a red in color passenger vehicle there on December 10, 2021 for about five minutes. The vehicle led officers to Michael Wayne Rich, 50, of Hillview Drive, Iron Station, NC. Rich was interviewed on December 17, 2021 and confessed to the larceny.

Rich is charged with felony larceny from a construction site and possession of stolen goods. He was taken before a Lincoln County magistrate and placed in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center under a $2,500 secured bond.

Detectives J. Lail and D. Snellings were the investigating officers.
