LCSO To Offer Classes Under HR-218 Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act

Lincoln County Sheriff's
Office Press Release

LINCOLNTON, N.C. – Lincoln County Sheriff Bill Beam and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office announce classes in HR-218, The Federal Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act, will now be offered locally.

These classes are often difficult to find by many retired law enforcement deputies, officers, troopers and federal/state agents who move to Lincoln County and the surrounding area from other parts of the United States.

Enacted by the 108th Congress of the United States in 2004, HR-218 allows for retired law enforcement officers to carry concealed firearms nationwide if they meet the definition of a “Qualified Retired Law Enforcement Officer” as specified in HR-218, in addition to having within the most recent 12-month period, met the State of North Carolina standards for training and qualification for active law enforcement officers to carry firearms.

Retired local, state or federal law enforcement officers that are now residing in North Carolina may meet the State of North Carolina standards by enrolling in one of our classes provided by our certified law enforcement specialized firearms instructor to successfully complete the training and qualification.

The class will include current legal updates, firearms safety on and off the firing range, marksmanship fundamentals, and daytime/night time qualification and combat courses. After completion of the class, the retired law enforcement officer may then submit an application Form F-9R. The form will be completed by the certified law enforcement specialized firearms instructor and then mailed o the North Carolina Criminal Justice Standards Commission for certification.

Interested persons can call Lincoln County Sheriff’s office Lt. Jordan Cody at 704-736-8866 Monday thru Friday or email Lt. Cody at jcody@lincolnsheriff.org.
