A few years ago, Thanksgiving Day got turned into a shopping day kicking off Black Friday. That has changed as some stores who used to be open on Thanksgiving have decided to celebrate the holiday instead. Gone, too, are most of the 'wait in line all night, so you can be one of the few to get a super deal' on Black Friday morning.
Thanks in part to the pandemic, which has turned many Americans into online shoppers, many will make their Black Friday choices online this year. Walmart's 2021 Black Friday sale starts online on Monday evening (Nov. 22nd) at 7 PM and in-store on Nov. 26th (Black Friday) at 5 AM. Notable deals include Apple Watch and AirPods Pro, Instant Pots and iRobot Roomba vacuums.
Lowe's decided to get into Black Friday mode early. If you really need a major appliance, they'll be offering those at much reduced prices. Their Pre-Black Friday sale https://blackfriday.com/ads/pre-black-friday/lowesstarts this Friday and runs through next Wednesday (Nov. 24th).
While 78% of consumers now shop online for gifts, 46% shop only online. 67% of all consumers shop on Amazon for holiday gifts, followed by 48% who shop on Walmart.com and 34% for all other websites.
There is no doubt that the pandemic has had a significant effect on Americans' buying habits. But if you don't care to make Jeff Bezos richer, you may want to do some in-person shopping this year, and gifts you buy locally will help the local economy.
Several years ago, American Express created an event for small businesses called Shop Small Saturday. It happens this year on Saturday, November 27th.
On that day, small independent local businesses welcome you to SHOP SMALL. You'll not only find a plethora of great Christmas gift ideas; your purchases will help the local economy.
