Gastonia Police Department
Press Release

Gastonia Police have charged a 19-year-old from Shelby, Santonio Azanier Eskridge, with second degree murder in the shooting death of a Gastonia girl, 14-year-old Nivia Danner on Tuesday (Sept. 14th).

Police say the shooting occurred in the parking lot of Rodgers Bail Bonding at the corner of Rankin Avenue and North Chester Street Tuesday afternoon.
Police were called at 1:18 PM for what the caller said was a "medical emergency," and determined that Danner had been shot. She was taken to CaroMont Regional Medical Center where she died from her injuries.

Police say Eskridge fled the scene in a white Chevrolet Impala; the car was found abandoned in Cleveland County Tuesday night.

Eskridge was arrested Wednesday afternoon and charged with second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a felon.
