Office Press Release

LINCOLNTON, N.C. – Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputies recovered a motorcycle stolen from Catawba County and arrested the person operating it after a foot chase.

On September 9, 2021 Sgt. S. Dombrowski was traveling Buffalo Shoals Road when he observed a burgundy motorcycle matching the description of one entered stolen by Maiden Police.

The officers turned around on the motorcycle which pulled into a driveway in the 1900 block of Buffalo Shoals Road. After speaking to the person operating the motorcycle and a resident at that address, Sgt. Dombrowski asked the rider of the motorcycle if he could check the VIN number to be sure it wasn’t stolen. While he was doing that, the rider of the motorcycle fled on foot into a nearby wooded area.

The officer learned the name of the individual is Joshua Thomas Carpenter, 31, of Victory Grove Church Road, Lincolnton, NC. Deputies searched the area but could not locate the individual. The motorcycle had been reported stolen and was picked up by Maiden Police.

Later on September 9, 2021, Deputy M. Ginther responded to the area of Buffalo Shoals Road and Daniel Shrum Road reference a suspicious person. The description of the man matched that of the person who ran from officers earlier in the day. Deputy Ginther encountered the male suspect near the Shiloh Run subdivision. The officer exited her vehicle and began a foot chase that went some 420 feet down Bridle Trail. She observed the male got behind a boat parked at a residence. A resident in the area assisted in placing the man in custody.

He was taken before a Lincoln County magistrate and charged with possession of a stolen motorcycle, driving while license revoked, no motorcycle operator’s endorsement, two counts of resisting arrest and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was placed in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center under a $17,000 secured bond.
