Yes, it was the weather! Lincolnton had three power outages Wednesday (September 1st). The first one in mid-morning took out much of the town including the downtown area, Lincolnton High School, Battleground School, and much more. That one was caused by a cross arm collapsing--likely damaged in earlier storms.
The second occurred about 4 PM and took out power briefly in a large area including the water plant. It was caused by a lightning strike.
The third shortly after 6:30 was because of transformer failure, also likely caused by the lightning.
City crews got the first one fixed in about two hours. The second lasted only minutes. Power was restored to most customers by just after 8:30 from the third.
City electric crews certainly earned their pay on Wednesday!
