Lincoln County Sheriff's Office Press Release
LINCOLNTON, N.C. - The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office Citizen's Police Academy got underway on August 30, 2021 with the first night of the 12-week program. Thirty-one participants were accepted into the program, following an application process, and will get an up-close look at how the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office operates.
These participants come from all different backgrounds, occupations, and from all areas of Lincoln County. Each participant has their own reason for applying to the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office Citizen’s Police Academy. During their introductions, each participant had the opportunity to talk about why they were interested in the Citizen’s Police Academy program. Some participants expressed interest in specific law enforcement operations, such as criminal investigations, while other participants are looking to engage with members of the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office.
Each participant will have the opportunity to explore many law enforcement topics, such as Sheriff’s Office duties, Use of Force, law enforcement communications, traffic enforcement, Special Operations (SWAT, Dive Team, Land Search, and Mobile Field Force), criminal investigations, and detention center operations. Each of these topics will include both lecture and hands on training, with the guidance of many members of the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office.
This week, Lincoln County Sheriff Bill Beam addressed the participants and thanked them for their interest in the program. Sheriff Beam discussed plans for Sheriff’s Office growth and expansion, including plans for the development of a new Denver District. Sheriff Beam explained how this new district will not only impact the citizens of East Lincoln, but will benefit the entire county, with additional officers working each shift. The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office is also planning for a jail expansion, which should begin within the next two years.
LCSO Detective Dylan Houser began with an overview of the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office Citizen’s Academy, outlining the schedule for the coming weeks. Detective Houser gave a detailed presentation with an overview of the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office and law enforcement operations. The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office looks forward to this year’s Citizen’s Academy and plans to offer the program annually.
