GASTONIA, N.C. – Detectives from the Gastonia Police Department (GPD) have charged Franklin Earl Lawrence Jr., age 48, of Gastonia, with armed robbery-related offenses for the robbery of a BB&T bank that occurred this morning in Gastonia.
This morning (Thursday, August 19), at approximately 10:35 a.m., Central District officers responded to the BB&T bank located at 3070 Union Road for the report a robbery. The investigation by detectives determined that the suspect approached a teller, displayed a handgun and demanded currency. The suspect obtained an undisclosed amount of currency from the bank and fled.
Shortly after the robbery occurred, a GPD K9 officer and his partner located the suspect in a wooded area a short distance from the bank. The suspect, now identified as Lawrence Jr., was arrested and transported to GPD headquarters for a police interview. Officers recovered a firearm from Lawrence Jr., that is believed to have been used during the robbery. Lawrence Jr., has been charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and possession of a firearm by felon.
