Time and again, law enforcement agencies have cautioned gun owners to secure their weapons so they are not accessible to children. Gastonia Police say a 29-year-old father was apparently shot by his 2-year-old child, who may have thought the .40-caliber Glock handgun was a toy, Sunday night (Aug. 8th).
Police were called to 610 W. Fifth Ave. at 8:46 PM Sunday where they found Markovia Lashawan Durham dead at the scene. Police said the gun was not properly secured before the shooting.
Gastonia Police are still investigating the incident. Anyone with information that could help with the investigation is asked to call Detective Fleming at 704-866-6878.
