LINCOLNTON, N.C. – A Lincoln County man was arrested Friday, June 19, 2020 and charged in the death of his two-year-old son. Deputies arrested Baron Gerod Charles Sr. 54, at the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were dispatched along with Lincoln County EMS and North 321 Fire Department on June 8, 2020 to a residence in the 900 block of Horseshoe Lake Road reference a child that was not breathing.
Emergency services personnel attempted to revive the child, 2-year-old Jeremiah Charles, with CPR but were unable to do so. The child was pronounced dead at the scene, and had sustained multiple injuries to his face, neck, and torso.
Following a thorough investigation, Detective K. Harrington charged Baron Gerod Charles, Sr., 54, of 976 Horseshoe Lake Road, Lincolnton, NC with one felony count of murder. He is being held in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center without the privilege of bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on June 22, 2020.
A second child living in the home was removed by Lincoln County DSS. Investigation into the incident is continuing.
