Hickory Stabbing

Lincoln Herald Staff

A 29-year-old Hickory man has been charged with murder after he allegedly stabbed two people, one of them his mother.

Catawba County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a reported stabbing at a residence on 16th Street Dr NE in Hickory at 2:50 Monday morning after receiving a report that a person had been stabbed. There they discovered Rebecca Hahn, an occupant of the residence, had suffered at stab wound to her torso.  Hahn told deputies that her son, Billy Joe Hahn, Jr, stabbed her while both were in a camper situated on the property. He had fled before deputies arrived.

Rebecca Hahn was transported to Carolinas Medical Center where she died from her injuries. An arrest warrant charging her son with murder was issued at approximately 8 AM Monday.

At 9:15 investigators located a vehicle Hahn was operating at a residence on 28th St NE in Hickory. As deputies approached they discovered Kris Goodson, who had also been stabbed,  in that vehicle.  He was transported to Catawba Valley Medical Center. It was later established that Hahn stabbed Goodson while both were at the 28th St NE residence.

Hahn barricaded himself inside the residence on 28th Street NE adjacent to where the car was parked.

The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office Special Tactics and Response (STAR) Team and the Catawba County Critical Incident and De-Escalation Team responded.  After a two hour standoff, Hahn peacefully surrendered.

Hahn was jailed in the Catawba County Detention Facility pending a first court appearance on Tuesday (Jan. 19th).
