12/15/2020 2:10:00 PM Lincoln County Man Charged With Several Break-Ins

LINCOLNTON, N.C. – A traffic stop following information the vehicle may have been used in a theft has led to charges against the driver in several break-ins in the county.
On December 14, 2020 deputies were dispatched to the area of Harmon Road after a building contractor alerted authorities about the suspicious man on his job site. After the vehicle was stopped it was discovered the driver, Michael Wayne Rich, 49, of Hillview Drive, Iron Station, NC, had an outstanding warrant from Alexander County. Rich was taken into custody by Deputy M. Borich.
During an interview with the suspect it was learned that illegal drugs along with stolen tools were located in the vehicle. Rich was transported to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office where he was also interviewed by Detectives D. Snellings and M. Lookadoo. Rich confessed to four incidents that were under investigation by Sheriff’s detectives. Two of the incidents occurred in the 2900 block of Keever Dairy Farm Road while the other two incidents were at Gilbert Road and Harmon Road.
Rich was taken before a Lincoln County magistrate where he was served warrants for breaking and entering a motor vehicle, felony larceny, felony possession of stolen goods, misdemeanor larceny, misdemeanor possession of stolen goods, attempted felony larceny, damage to real property, breaking and entering a building, larceny after breaking and entering, and possession of stolen goods. He was placed in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center under a $31,000 secured bond.
Investigating officers are Deputies M. Borich and K. Cornett, Sgt. B. Alexander and Detectives M. Lookadoo, J. Lail and D. Snellings.
Investigation into other incidents in Lincoln County as well as other agencies is continuing and additional charges may be filed.
