Reward Offered In Nov. 1st Burglary/Arson Case

Catawba County Sheriff's Office
Press Release

The Catawba County Sheriff's Office has announced that a reward is being offered for information useful in solving a crime from early November.

On November 1st at 1 AM firefighters were called to Lake Norman RV Resort on NC 150 at Sherrills Ford. The office of the business suffered heavy damage.

Video footage from the company's surveillance system showed a person dressed in black pants and a black hoodie with the hood pulled over the person's head carrying a pry bar and a red gas can. The video showed the person forced entry ot the business office, doused it with gasoline, and then set it afire. The video footage also shows the culprit accidentally set himself or herself on fire as well as a bag thought to contain money from the office. A vehicle was waiting in the roadway and the arsonist made a getaway in that vehicle.

The Sheriff's Office questioned a former employee but ended up eliminating that person as a suspect.

It was announced Monday (Dec. 7th) that the owner of the business is offering a $5,000 reward for any information and testimony that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons involved.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Catawba County Sheriff's Office at 828-464-3112.
