Office Press Release

LINCOLNTON - Lincoln County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to a domestic trespassing and damage to property call today (Feb. 5) around 1:30 a.m.

When officers arrived on the scene an occupant of the residence told officers she heard a loud boom and then saw a white pickup truck backing out of the driveway. A check of the residence revealed that the garage door had been knocked off its track and pulled the support frame off the wall. The vehicle belonged to Brandon James Mosteller, 35, of Lincolnton and deputies secured warrants on Mosteller for damage to property and violation of a domestic violence protective order.

Around 2:30 a.m. deputies were dispatched back to the residence on Clarence Chase Drive after the man returned. While officers were talking with the home owner the vehicle came to a stop on the road nearby and officers attempted to stop him. Officers activated their emergency equipment and chased the vehicle on Ivey Church Road. The truck crossed the center line on a number of occasions and was traveling well above the 45 mile per hour posted speed limit. Near the intersection of Walker Road the vehicle ran off the road, struck an embankment and overturned several times.

When officers approached the vehicle they could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from the truck. They broke the back glass in the truck and cut the seat belt restraining the driver. Lincoln County EMS and Pumpkin Center Fire Department extricated the driver and transported him to Atrium Health – Lincoln where he was airlifted to Atrium Health – Main. Mosteller faces an additional charge of felony fleeing to elude arrest. Investigating officers are 1st Sgt. S. Grinnell, Sgt. A. Sutton, and Deputy J. Counts.

The accident is being investigated by the North Carolina Highway Patrol.
