School News Update

Lincoln County Schools
Press Release

Here's the latest update from Lincoln County Schools on a variety of subjects:

Effective Monday June 15th, the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) will officially lift the current ‘dead period’ for athletics which has been in effect since March, 2020.  Lincoln County Schools (LCS) middle school and high school athletes will be able to begin conditioning drills to prepare for participation in fall sports beginning Monday (June 15th).  Each Local Education Agency (school system) and Superintendent have been given the local control to develop a summer guidance “return to sports” plan that will allow activities to resume in athletic facilities and venues.  LCS feels strongly that it is time for our student athletes to return to the field and prepare for fall sports.

Each middle and high school in the district will communicate with students and families via social media, school website, and phone call messaging to provide information pertaining to each school and how they will begin reentry into athletic conditioning.  Each school will take precautions as directed by the Department of Health and Human Services, the NCHSAA, and local health department guidelines to practice appropriate social distancing of staff and students, disinfecting of equipment and facilities, and monitoring of student athletes and coaches during Phase One of athletic conditioning.  Each daily conditioning opportunity will be limited to 90 minutes.  Each sport has specific guidelines for conditioning and use of sport specific equipment.  Spectators will not be allowed to watch from outside of their vehicle during the conditioning periods.

The LCS Child Nutrition Department has served over 445,000 meals by offering the Grab and Go Feeding Program.

Summer Meals:  We will continue to offer our FREE To-Go meals to ANY child or young adult 18 years and younger during the summer months.  The sites are open Monday through Friday and will provide weekend meals on Fridays.

Our Summer Food Bus rolled out on June 1st and can be seen making various stops around town.

Parents that need help finding a food site close to them can text FOODNC to 877-877 or visit the website.

All feeding sites are drive-through only.  Parents may go to any school offering these free meals.  Parents are not required to go to the school their child attends to pick up meals.  We are encouraging the community to take advantage of the Free Meals To-Go program at the six designated school locations.

For anyone not already aware:

PICK-UP TIME:  11:00 AM to 1:00 PM

  • Battleground Elementary
  • East Lincoln High
  • Norris S. Childers Elementary
  • Pumpkin Center Intermediate
  • S. Ray Lowder Elementary
  • West Lincoln Middle

LCS continues to provide food bags to those in need over the summer.  Approximately 28 families have been identified and are receiving additional food each week. Contents of these bags are being supplied by a combination of items from Pursuit Church, Burton Farms, and food/monetary donations from our community.

As the district prepares for a new school year, the custodial staff and athletic department will be armed with a new professional strength disinfectant, Bioesque.  This cleaner is EPA registered and has a kill claim of four minutes for COVID-19.  Bioesque is a 4 in 1 solution: disinfectant, sanitizer, cleaner, and deodorizer.

The custodial staff and athletic coaches will be using Bioesque in our misters, foggers, and electrostatic sprayers to disinfect and sanitize the entire school campus.  Both custodial staff and coaches will be working from a required checklist of items to be disinfected and sanitized on a daily basis.  Custodians will be focused on the interior of the buildings while athletic staff turn their attention to athletic equipment.

The Emergency Leave eligibility for employees is determined on a case by case basis due to the impact of COVID-19.  This leave option has been extended to June 15, 2020.  If an employee feels they may need to access this leave, they should contact their direct supervisor and the Human Resources Department.

Exterior public wireless access is available at all school sites.  A one-page map and information sheet that shows the network name and where to access the service on each campus is available on individual school websites, the Lincoln County Schools Facebook page, and at under Community Resources.

Lincoln County Schools is excited to announce a NEW online student enrollment opportunity (available June 15th) and data verification system for our returning students for the upcoming school year (2020-2021), powered by PowerSchool Enrollment (formerly InfoSnap).  The system is a secure and green process, which allows parents to register students for school and for each school to verify all student demographic, emergency and medical information for current students prior to the start of the new school year.  The system will also allow families to electronically sign the annual permission forms generally found in our handbook.  This online process replaces all the hard copy student registration and permission forms that students bring home on the first day of school.

To enroll NEW students, parents will access the LCS website ( and click on the Student Enrollment tab and go to New Student Enrollment.

When it is the appropriate time for families to fill out the online verification form for returning students (approximately July 8th), they will receive a letter/email from Lincoln County Schools with instructions on how to access the system for their student.  The email will contain a link with instructions and a secure "snapcode" that links families to their student's information.

Some key benefits for families:

  • Securely available anywhere with internet access
  • Annual process = more current information in our database
  • Forms are pre-populated with data on file
  • Families can save and come back if necessary
  • Ability to remind families to update data
  • Share family information between siblings
  • Technical assistance provided to parents by PowerSchool

Lincoln County Schools acknowledges that this will represent a change in our processes and know we will see an initial learning curve.  After this, though, we believe you will see that this new process will provide new efficiencies for our district - minimizes data entry and streamlines data management.

We are looking forward to this transition.  Please contact your school Principal and/or Data Manager with any questions.
