An 18-year-old Shelby High School senior drowned in Moss Lake Friday. According to a news release from the Kings Mountain Police Dept., at 12:30 Friday afternoon (March 17th), emergency personnel were called to the lake east of Shelby after Jeremiah Ross jumped off a pier, had trouble in the water, went under and did not resurface. His body was pulled from the lake about three hours later; he was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.

Roberts had played linebacker on the Shelby football team. He had planned to join the army after graduating in May.
