Thursday (Jan. 9th) is National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day.

Law Enforcement Officers including local police, the Sheriff's Office, the NC Highway Patrol and other local, state and federal officers put their lives on the line every day for their communities. They’ve answered a call to public service that is demanding, often under-appreciated, and sometimes unduly criticized because of the actions of a few who don't measure up to the high standards the public expects.

The jobs take them away from their families--often for long hours. Rarely do they know what their days have in store for them. When they leave home for work, there's no guarantee that they'll return home safely--but they do their job to keep our communities safe.

On National Law Enforcement Day, the Lincoln Herald wants to say "thank you" to our officers.
