Today in History 1585 the English secret service discovered a murder plot against Queen Elizabeth I; in 1917 by Royal Proclamation the British Royal family name was changed to Windsor; and  in 1918 Nicholas II Alexandrovich, last Tsar of Russia, his family and staff were executed.
