Ruby Carolyn Gilbert Bess
July 16, 1936 - March 13, 2023

VALE, N.C. - Ruby Carolyn Gilbert Bess, 86 of Lingerfelt Road, Vale, passed away on Monday, March 13, 2023 at Trinity Ridge in Hickory.

Born in Lincoln County, on July 16, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Eddie Lee Gilbert and Bunola Reep Gilbert. Mrs. Bess was retired from Sweetree and West Lincoln Middle School and was a member of Reeps Grove United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Katie Russell.

Survivors include her husband of 70 years, Harrel Jean Bess; son, Gene Bess of Vale; two brothers, Tony Gilbert of Vale, Richard Gilbert of Vale; sister, Nancy Gantt of Lincolnton; two grandsons, Radley Bess and wife Jaclynn of Lincolnton and Bartley Bess and wife Krystle of Vale; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home of Bartley Bess, 1023 Wright Road, Vale.

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, March 16, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Reeps Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Bartley Bess officiating.

The burial will follow the service in the Reeps Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery.

A guest register is available at www.stameytysingerfuneralhome.com.

Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., Fallston, N.C. is serving the Bess family.
